October Library Survivor Workshops

Library Survivor workshops are a great way to learn about library research methods and techniques outside of a formal classroom setting. This month’s workshops will focus on plagiarism issues, EndNote, reading citations and finding the full text from citations, and how to cite sources using APA. There is no registration for these workshops; the doors to Library Classroom B open 10 minutes before the start of the session, and close when either the class is full (24 students) or when the workshop begins.

Many professors offer extra credit for attendance at these workshops. The instructing librarian will circulate an attendance sheet and send an e-mail to appropriate professors informing them of which students were present.

October workshop schedule:

APA Workshop
Monday, October 9, 5 pm to 6:15 pm
Co-taught with the LARC, this workshop will help students learn how to cite in proper APA format. Please note that this class is 1 hour 15 minutes. Also available online at: http://lib.radford.edu/Instruction/apaonline.asp

Citations and Full Text
Thursday, October 19, 2:30 pm to 3:45 pm
Students will learn how to select an appropriate database, interpret citations, and find the full article when only a citation or abstract is available. Please note this class is 1 hour 15 minutes!

EndNote
Wednesday, October 18, 10 am to 10:50 am
EndNote is a software package that helps users turn their citations into APA, MLA, and thousands of other formats. In this workshop, students will learn how to set up an EndNote library, how to put their citations into the system, and how to create a bibliography.

Plagiarism
Monday, October 16, 1 pm to 1:50 pm
In this interactive class, students will discuss plagiarism, paraphrasing, common knowledge, and other issues of academic integrity.

Library Survivors By Request
Give us a date, time, and the names of at least five students who will definitely attend, and we will hold any Library Survivor when you want it. Please give us at least one week’s notice, and note that the class will only be held if a classroom and librarian are available for that time slot.

Our final round of Library Survivor workshops for 2006 will be held in November. Full schedule available at: http://lib.radford.edu/Instruction/survivor.asp
